ABOUT SENLAB

An innovative platform for climate, environment and energy, Sustainable Energy Laboratory (SENLAB), aims to contribute to energy-related academic studies with an interdisciplinary approach. Putting a particular emphasis on the importance of social sciences perspective and the concept of sustainable energy, SENLAB focuses on research areas such as energy and environmental policy-making, analysis of the existing energy and environmental policies and prospective policy design, assessing energy-related decision-making processes, energy security, energy geopolitics, and economic, social, political and environmental impacts of energy transition.

The mission of SENLAB is to respond to the needs and expectations of the energy sector on the local and global scales, adopting a distinctive approach of raising social awareness on issues regarding climate change, environment and energy. In this direction, SENLAB examines Turkish and world energy sectors in terms of political, economic and technological aspects, develops cooperation with national and international stakeholders, taking into account their different perspectives, and performs impact assessments based on up-to-date data.

Established within the body of Izmir University of Economics, SENLAB carries out pioneering studies along the framework of university and industry collaboration in line with the close relations developed in both public and private sectors. The practical and result-oriented outputs of these studies are designed to be used by the energy sector and business world. SENLAB is also an active stakeholder in numerous EU Horizon 2020 and TÜBİTAK projects, and reflecting an impartial, inclusive, responsible and knowledge-based approach through its research activities.
